Advocates for Homeless & Those in Need (AHTN) has been responding to the needs of our homeless and those in need friends who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Back in March, everything changed when the world was asked to "shelter in place". Where does a homeless person shelter in place? Our friends were shut out from buildings, bathrooms, restaurants, etc. AHTN worked with the County to have portable bathrooms placed near encampments, showers offered by the YMCA in Fairless Hills, chargers given out to our friends so they could keep in contact with others. AHTN Mentors asked those in need what they needed and we helped by getting them meals "to go"; access to shower facilities; clean clothing for after their shower; access to laundry services, etc..
Our Current Missions:
Free Shared Meals: With Houses of Worship not hosting sit-down dine in options, we have been working with their gracious volunteers to have them provide "to go" meals for our homeless friends. An AHTN volunteer driver picks up the meals and delivers them to the regular bus stops that we normally use. Our homeless friends are not starving.
Those in Need: The need for emergency shelter has almost tripled since the pandemic started. AHTN is able to fund shelter in a local motel for individuals, couples and families. Rental assistance is the next biggest request, so we are funding assistance so individuals and families can stay in their dwelling.
Code Blue: This season we will be hosting our winter shelter in one location instead of moving to different churches every month. We will be at Calvary Baptist Church's Outpost building. This is a blessing as we will be able to keep our cots, tables and supplies set up from December 1 through March 31. Our homeless friends will not freeze during the upcoming winter.
Shower Mission: Our normal once a month mission at Friends Meetinghouse in Fallsington was changed to showers twice a week at the YMCA in Fairless Hills. Now we are offering showers once a week at the Rodeway Inn in Bristol.
